
Micronas, a subsidiary of TDK Corporation, has expanded its line of Hall position sensors with the previously released masterHAL family and its new member, the HAL 39xy family. The new HAL 3900 supports true 3D magnetic field measurement and 2D stray field compensation, which can be obtained through a high-speed SPI interface. This enables the sensor to fully meet the needs of the automotive and industrial markets today and in the future, and offers four different measurement modes in a single product: linear position measurement, 360° Angle measurement, 180° Angle measurement with gradual stray field compensation, and true three-dimensional magnetic field measurement (BX, BY, BZ).
At the heart of the HAL 3900 sensor is the patented 3D HAL measuring unit. It can not only accurately measure the magnetic field, but also realize the magnetic field measurement in three directions at a single point. It detects the direction of the magnetic field when measuring the BX, BY and BZ magnetic fields. At the same time, its unique Hall plate array provides the ability to compensate the stray field. This highly flexible combination allows engineers to select the best measurement mode for any given measurement task. The HAL 3900 is the only product on the market that integrates four different measurement modes in a single device.
The combination of the SPI interface and 3D measurement capability makes the HAL 3900 an ideal solution for applications such as gear shift lever or steering column switches. Its unique stray field compensation makes the sensor perfectly suited for applications requiring stray field stabilization off-axis measurement. Under the condition of A stray field with an intensity of 4000 A/m, the Angle error due to the stray field can be reduced to less than 0.3°. The HAL 3900 also features a sleep mode that helps customers reduce average current consumption, which is increasingly important for electric vehicles. The product has been developed in accordance with ISO 26262 and complies with ASIL B ready's SEooC (Safe Elements out of Context) standard.
