A new family of compact power supplies for demanding medical applications

     COSEL has expanded its medical power line with the introduction of the new UMA series, the first two models being the 30W UMA30F and 60W UMA60F. This model has a universal input range from 85VAC to 264VAC and complies with international safety standards. Developed for demanding medical applications, the UMA Series is ideal for BF applications, meeting 2MOPP (IN/OUT) and 1MOPP (OUT/FG) safety requirements.

     The UMA60F is only 2.5mm (24.2mm) tall and weighs a maximum of 120g. The series has an excellent five-year warranty and complies with European RoHS and low voltage directives. The combination of compact size, excellent cost performance and high quality makes the series an excellent power solution not only for the medical market, but also for test and measurement as well as industrial applications, including household and similar appliances.

     Three options are available to suit specific application requirements, including adjustable output voltage (Y), terminal block (T), and for applications requiring additional security, UMA30F and UMA60F feature enhanced isolation in compliance with IEC Level II (E). The UMA30F measures 50.8mm x 21.7mm x 76.2mm [2" x 0.85" x 3"](W x H x D) and has a maximum weight of 80g.

     Based on a powerful platform, the design of the device has been optimized to provide excellent cost performance for medical applications requiring high quality power solutions. The series has up to 5 output voltages of 5, 12, 15, 24 and 48VDC. The series can operate in the universal input range of 85VAAC to 264VAC, with typical efficiency up to 91% at high line.

     The current UMA30F standard has four single output voltages :5V/3A, 12V/2.5A, 24V/1.3A and 48V/0.65A, and the UMA60F standard has five output voltages :5V/6A, 12V/4.5A, 15V/3.5A, 24V/2.5A and 48V/1.25A. The output is factory adjusted to a fixed value, but an option "Y" with potentiometer is provided in applications requiring output voltage adjustment.

     The series includes inrush current limiting circuit, overcurrent and overvoltage protection. Providing versatility and robustness, the power supply can operate in the ambient temperature range from -20℃ to +70℃. Derating may be applied depending on the final device assembly method and cooling conditions. With a medical focus, the series complies with 2MOPP for I/O isolation, 1MOPP for frame ground input and 1MOPP for FG output.

     The device complies with ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and EN60601-1 3rd Edition. In the case of BF applications, the patient's leakage current must be less than 100 μA with its 75 μA figure, and the UMA series is well below this limit, making it ideal for this application. UMA series meets the following body certification :ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, EN60601-1 3rd, C-UL(equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.60601-1), UL62368-1, EN62368-1, C-UL(equivalent to CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.62368-1), and in accordance with EN60335-1.
