ADI Launches Frequency Synthesizer for High Performance UWB Data Converter and Synchronous Applications

     Analog Devices (ADI) introduced a 800MHz to 12.8GHz frequency synthesizer ADF4377 for high-performance ultra wideband data converters and synchronous applications. This frequency synthesizer drives the signal sampling process by providing an ultra clean clock source to achieve excellent signal-to-noise performance. Based on ADF4377, the new generation broadband receiver and transmitter can use a higher level of dynamic range, thus improving receiver sensitivity and transmitter spectral purity. The normalized in band phase noise of the ADF4377 frequency synthesizer is as low as - 239dBc/Hz, the normalized 1/f noise is as low as - 147dBc/Hz, and the background noise of the broadband voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is - 160dBc/Hz, thus achieving a jitter level lower than 18fs rms, thus obtaining such excellent performance.

     The ADF4377 frequency synthesizer is suitable for applications that require multiple data converters or mixed signal front end (MxFE) digitizers to work together, such as radar, instrumentation, broadband receivers, etc. The ADF4377 greatly simplifies alignment and calibration procedures, allowing multiple sets of data converters to sample signals in timing precisely aligned with each other, which is critical for the operation of next-generation UWB multichannel systems.

     These features make the alignment of the multi chip clock and SYSREF accurate and predictable. The ADF4377 frequency synthesizer can support JESD204B and JESD204C subclass 1 solutions when used in conjunction with an IC responsible for allocating paired reference and SYSREF signals. The ADF4377 integrates all necessary power bypass capacitors, saving the board area on the compact circuit board.
