ADI introduces highly integrated microwave upconverter and Downconverter

     ADI announced the ADMV1013 and ADMV1014, which are highly integrated microwave upconverter and downconverter. Operating in an extremely wide frequency range from 24 GHz to 44 GHz, these ics provide a 50 euro match, enabling support for all 5G millimeter wave bands (including 28 GHz and 39 GHz) on a single platform built to help simplify designs and reduce costs.Available in a 40-pin, 6mm x 6mm LGA package and the ADMV1014 in a 32-pin, 5mm x 5mm LGA package.

     In addition, the chipset is capable of delivering a flat 1 GHz RF instantaneous bandwidth that supports all broadband services as well as other ultra-wideband wide transceiver applications. Each upconverter and downconverter is highly integrated, including I (in-phase) and Q (quadrate-phase) mixers, and on-chip programmable quadrate-phase shifters can be configured to convert directly to/from baseband (operating frequency range: DC to 6 GHz) or convert to IF (operating frequency range: 800 MHz to 6 GHz).

     The chip also integrates a voltage variable attenuator, a transmitting PA driver (in the upconverter) and a receiving LNA (in the downconverter), an LO buffer with an integrated 4x frequency multiplier, and a programmable tracking filter. Most programmable functions are controlled through the SPI serial interface. Through this port, these chips also provide unique functionality for each upconverter and downconverter to correct their respective orthogonal phase imbalances, thereby improving sideband emission performance, which is often difficult to suppress, by 10 dB or more from 32 dBc typical values. This provides unmatched microwave radio performance. This combination of features provides unprecedented flexibility and ease of use while minimizing external components and enabling the implementation of small size systems such as small cells.

     The highly integrated ADMV1013 microwave upconverter and ADMV1014 microwave Downconverter are ideal for microwave radio platforms operating in the 28 GHz and 39 GHz 5G wireless infrastructure frequency bands. These converters have a bandwidth of 1GHz and an upconverter with an OIP3 greater than 20 dBm to support harsh modulation schemes such as 1024QAM and multiple gigabytes of wireless data. In addition, the chipset also supports other applications such as satellite and ground receiving station broadband communication links, aviation radios, RF test equipment and radar systems. Its superior linearity and image rejection are particularly suitable for increasing the microwave transceiver range.
