AMD announced that the AMD Embedded Radeon HD 7850 GPU has begun delivering cutting-edge application performance for Analogic's BK Ultrasound bk3000™ ultrasound system. Analogic is a leader in the development of medical and security technology solutions that continue to drive medical advances to save lives.
"AMD Embedded Radeon HD 7850 Gpus with Open CL™ support provide powerful and efficient pairing," said Cameron Swen, marketing manager, Medical Applications segment, AMD Embedded Solutions. "This product enables sharper, more detailed medical images and more advanced graphics performance, and is another example of AMD's commitment to bringing advanced technology to the medical market segment to help physicians provide better care for their patients."
Analogic uses the OpenCL standard to access general-purpose computing on Gpus, known as "GPGpus." It can provide excellent performance and reduce system and development costs through cross-platform portability. Using AMD GPU technology, Analogic has tripled the amount of information it can extract from each ultrasound image, while reducing the time it takes to go from capture to display. Traditional FPGas and DSPS are built for a fixed and rigid execution that requires customized software for specific hardware. Using a software-based OpencL-enabled solution can further reduce development costs and deliver better long-term value because the software can be used across product lines and across multiple generations.
Jacques Coumans, Analogic's chief Marketing and Science Officer, said, "One of our key goals when designing our products was to create a platform that delivered superior performance. After comparing the options, the AMD Embedded Radeon HD 7850 GPU stands out for its superior quality and scalability. "The bk3000 ultrasound system uses AMD embedded graphics technology to provide superior speed and image fidelity, allowing clinicians to determine more complex patient anatomy and flow dynamics."
The AMD Embedded Radeon HD 7850 GPU is based on AMD's award-winning Next Generation Graphics (GCN) architecture to enhance visual performance and parallel processing for embedded applications. In addition to ultrasound, other applications for GPGpus include some of the most complex parallel applications, such as terrain and weather mapping, expression and gesture recognition, as well as biometrics and DNA analysis.
