Advanced Energy introduces an ultra-small, high power density DC/DC power converter

The company announced the launch of a new ultra-small 48V input DC/DC power converter, which shows that the market leader in this line of power products continues to grow with more different models to choose from. The power converter, AVD200-48S12, comes in an industry-standard size package but offers twice the output power, making it ideal for devices such as 5G digital communications, power over Ethernet and fiber optic networks.

     The AVD200-48S12 power converter not only has a small package, but also a very high power density. With fewer power conversion losses, operating efficiency can be improved and the overall cost of the system can be reduced. In addition, the power converter package is particularly small, allowing the printed circuit board to free up more room for other components necessary to perform critical functions of telecommunications and data communication equipment.

     The newly launched Artesyn AVD200-48S12 power supply product is an enterprise-class isolated 1/16 brick DC/DC power converter for the telecommunications industry that is rated at 200W and offers insulated Power over Ethernet (PoE) for input voltages from 36 to 75VDC. The power converter comes in an industry-standard size package that is the same size as the Artesyn AVD120's 120W, 1/16 brick power converter, but has nearly twice the output power. Compared to the Artesyn AVO200's 200W, 1/8 brick power converter, this new power converter is half the size, but the output power is the same.

     The AVD200-48S12 power converter has an extremely high rated efficiency of more than 94.2% and can convert 48V input power to 12V regulated output, thus providing input power to downstream unisolated power conversion stages. The power conversion module is designed in both open and substrate architecture, with a choice of pin insertion or surface mount, and for heat dissipation, the customer can choose between forced air dissipation provided by the fan, conduction mode or heat sink.
