Allegro introduces DC/DC regulators with ultra-low quiescent current, low electromagnetic interference, and resistance to harsh environments

     The ARG81800 contains all control and protection circuits and is a PWM regulator with ± 1.5% output voltage accuracy. Due to its ultra-low quiescent current, it can realize "non shutdown" power operation with minimum power current consumption during very light load voltage stabilization. The ARG81,800 is available in 500mA and 1A versions, so the physical dimensions of power components can be optimized for low current systems, thereby reducing PCB area and saving costs. PWM switching frequencies can be programmed over a wide range to balance optimized efficiency, component size, and EMC performance.

     The ARG81800 can maintain the output voltage under no-load or extremely light load conditions through the low power consumption (LP) mode, while only drawing microamps of current from the VIN. The ARG81800 includes a PWM/AUTO control pin, so the system can dynamically force PWM or AUTO mode by setting the pin to high level or low level respectively. If the SYNCIN pin is driven by an external clock, the ARG81800 will be forced into PWM mode and synchronized with the input clock. The ARG81800 can add frequency jitter to SYNCIN clock to reduce EMI/EMC. The ARG81800 has a CLKOUT pin, so the "downstream" regulator can easily realize interleaving and jitter through synchronous input.

     The ARG81800 has an external compensation function, so it can be adjusted through many different external components on a wide PWM frequency to meet a wide range of system objectives. The ARG81800 includes adjustable soft start, which can minimize the surge current. The ARG81800 has a wide range of protection functions, including pulse by pulse current limiting, burping mode short circuit protection, startup open circuit/short circuit voltage protection, input undervoltage locking, output overvoltage protection and thermal shutdown.
