Allegro releases a line of non-coding FOC non-inductive BLDC fan drivers

     Allegro announces the launch of the QuietMotion product family. The product family includes the first commercially available brushless direct current (BLDC) motor control ics integrated with a field-oriented control algorithm (FOC) (no customer coding required), which help designers shorten the development cycle while achieving reliable, efficient, and low audible noise control.

     Most FOC BLDC drivers today require software developers to write algorithms to control the motor through the microprocessor, but the QuietMotion devices incorporate Allegro's innovative FOC algorithms, which enable stable, quiet operation without having to write software. This greatly reduces research and development costs and shortens time to market. At the same time, because the system is designed with only five external components, it also minimizes bill of materials (BOM) costs, improves reliability, and reduces design complexity. The biggest advantages of control motors using Quietmotion devices are that they are very quiet (low noise), easy to implement, and have high efficiency.

     The first member of the Allegro QuietMotion product family, AMT49406, is an ideal solution for applications requiring high efficiency and low noise, such as vertical and hanging fans, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, air purifiers and exhaust fans. The AMT49406 uses an embedded proprietary windowless sinusoidal algorithm and soft start algorithm to deliver reliable, industry-leading low noise performance.

     The A89301 is also a member of the QuietMotion family, which, in addition to providing ultra-quiet operation, has the flexibility and configurable features required for more advanced applications, including high-end electrical fans, high-end ceiling fans and air purifiers. The A89301 is specifically designed for systems requiring low speed operation.

     The AMT49406 and A89301 have input voltage ratings from 5.5V to 50V and operating temperature ranges from -40 ° C to 105 ° C. These products are available in 24 contact, 4 mm x 4 mm QFN (suffix ES) or 24 lead, TSSOP (suffix LP) packages with exposed cooling pads, all packages are lead-free and pin frames are 100% mist tin plated.
