Allegro's new GMR gear speed sensor provides unprecedented choices for gear transmission designers

Allegro Microsystems announced that it has launched a new and more advanced giant magnetic resistance (GMR) speed sensor ATS19480, which can measure the rotation speed of the ferromagnetic gear. This speed sensor chip is a single -channel solution. It is an ideal choice for hybrid and pure electric vehicle transmission. It can also be extended to two -wheeled vehicles, off -road vehicles, and industrial applications that only need speed information.

     Allegro MicroSystems (Allegro), a global leader in sensing technologies and power semiconductor solutions for motion control and energy saving systems, announced that it has introduced a new and more advanced Giant Reluctance (GMR) speed sensor, the ATS19480, that measures the rotation speed of ferromagnetic gears. The speed sensor chip is a single-channel solution that is ideal for transmissions in hybrid and pure electric vehicles, and can also be extended to designs such as two-wheelers, off-road vehicles, and industrial applications that require only speed information.

     The ATS19480 adds a speed-only version to Allegro's recently released ATS19580 transmission speed and direction sensor chip family, while setting a new standard for speed sensing, enabling developers to achieve the highest level of system capability and adaptability. With an industry-leading air gap 50% larger than existing solutions, the ATS19480 further improves design flexibility, expands design margin and tolerance, and allows for a wider range of flexible sensor installation locations. These help reduce system complexity, size, weight, cost and energy consumption, which can improve efficiency and minimize carbon emissions.

     Allegro recently unveiled the dual-channel ATS19580 chip, the industry's first fully integrated GMR speed and direction sensor that provides superior vibration resistance in applications such as automotive transmissions. Both sensors, the ATS19480 and the previous ATS19580, released today, complement the Allegro ATS19420 and ATS19520 fully integrated Hall effect speed sensors, as well as the Hall Effect and GMR product lines for magnetic target sensing.

 

     Film integration enables the ATS19480 sensor to achieve excellent system performance and high -precision speed detection. Complete integrated single overall molding packaging can reduce design complexity and simplify the development process.

 

     ATS19480's three -foot single -footed single -column direct -inserted packaging (SIP) integrates chip, magnet and EMC protection functions to achieve flexible design and system compensation. Its precision assembly optimizes the position of the chip and the magnet. The smaller tolerance stack between the sensor chip and the magnet to improve the sensor accuracy, and leaves sufficient balance for the installation tolerance in the specific application.

 

     ATS19480 integrates advanced signal compensation technology, which can eliminate the signal caused by the system dynamics without switching. Differential sensing can prevent the impact of common modulus dispersion. The ATS19480 also includes an integrated ASIL B diagnostic function and certified security design processes. It can provide optional fault diagnosis information.
