Evo M51 of Aluminum Technology is an FPGA enhanced embedded module, which uses 32-bit Arm Cortex M4 microcontroller and Intel MAX 10 FPGA. The Evo M51 board meets the main pins, connectivity and functions of the Adafruit feather specification.

     Alorium Technology's Evo M51 is an FPGA-enhanced embedded module with a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M4 microcontroller and an Intel MAX 10 FPGA. The Evo M51 board meets the Adafruit feather specification for major stitching, connectivity and functionality.

 

     Since the Evo is designed as a embeddable module, the main I/Os is routed to through-hole holes as well as slotted holes along the edge of the board. Evo also offers an additional 34 digital castellated I/ o. Most digital I/O connections on the Evo are routed to the primary I/O and the secondary castellated I/O via an FPGA. This gives developers the opportunity to capture inputs or drive outputs immediately from the FPGA without having to interact directly with the SAMD controller.

 

     Fpgas can be used to implement enhancements that require accelerated performance, multiple parallel interfaces, or highly deterministic behavior. This might include providing SAMDs with a conduit between the offload engine, SAMD, and motherboard I/O, or capabilities that are fully included in the FPGA and completely isolated from SAMDs.

 

     The Evo M51 will support pre-built FPGA images provided by Alorium technology for application-specific use cases. In addition, designers will once again have the option to develop their own custom logic blocks and integrate them into a top-level MAX 10 FPGA design. Out of the box, the Evo, like many other boards based on SAMD51, can be programmed with Arduino. Therefore, writing and uploading firmware to a microcontroller is easy and familiar. In addition, the Evo is designed specifically to support running CircuitPython, a version of Python that is used to run on small microcontrollers.
