Analog Devices ADP2164 and ADP2166 are power products for point-load regulation, high-end consumer products and communications applications

     ADI's ADP2164 and ADP2166 are synchronous step-down dc-dc regulators in compact LFCSP packages. The ADP2164 has an input voltage range of 2.7V to 6.5V and an output voltage of 4a. The input voltage of the ADP2166 is 2.7V to 5.5V, and the output is 5 A and 6 A respectively. Output voltage options include 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.5V, 1.2V and 1.0V Fixed output and adjustable options capable of supporting output voltage ranges from 0.6V to 90% of input voltage. Protection features include undervoltage latching (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and hot shutdown (TSD) for robust performance.

     The ADP2164 integrates a pair of P-channel and n-channel internal MosFeTs with low on-resistance to maximize efficiency and minimize the number of external components. 100% duty cycle operation allows low step-down at 4a output current. The high 1.2 MHz PWM switching frequency allows the use of small external components, and the synchronous input allows multiple ics to synchronize out of phase to reduce ripple and eliminate beat frequency.

     The switching frequency of the ADP2166 can be programmed from 250 kHz to 1.4 MHz, or fixed at 620 kHz or 1.2 MHz. The synchronization feature allows switching frequencies to be synchronized to the external clock, minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI) to the system. Other key features include undervoltage latching (UVLO), integrated soft start limiting inrush current during startup, overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and hot shutdown. These regulators are ideal solutions for point-of-load regulation, high-end consumer products and communications applications.
