Analog Devices' ADRF6720 broadband orthogonal modulator is suitable for 3G and 4G communications

     Analog Devices' ADRF6720 is a broadband orthogonal modulator with an integrated synthesizer ideal for 3G and 4G communication systems. The ADRF6720 consists of a high linear wideband modulator, an integrated fractional n phase-locked loop (PLL), and four low phase noise multi-core voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs).

     The ADRF6720 local oscillator (LO) signal can be generated internally by on-chip integral-N and frit-N synthesizers, or externally by high-frequency, low-phase noise LO signals. The internally integrated synthesizer uses multi-core VCOs to give LO coverage from 356.25 MHz to 2855 MHz. In the case of internal LO generation or external LO input, the orthogonal signal is generated with a 2-phase splitter.

     When the ADRF6720 is operated with an external 1×LO input, the polyphase filter produces an orthogonal input to the mixer. The ADRF6720 provides carrier feed-through optimization, sideband suppression, HD3/IP3 optimization, and digital programmability for high or low side LO injection.

     ADRF6720 is manufactured by advanced silicon and germanium bimetallic processing technology. It is available in a 40-pin, Rohs-compatible, 6mm x 6mm LFCSP package with an exposed pad. Performance is specified in the temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
