Analog Devices' MAX16602 and MAX20790 controller IC voltage Regulator chipsets offer advanced self-protection and power features

ADI's MAX16602 and MAX20790 chipsets are more than 95% efficient and support 60 A to 800 A designs. This high-current multiphase voltage regulator chipset offers advanced self-protection and power supply features, including precise temperature monitoring and fast overcurrent protection. The IC features monolithic integration and advanced packaging technology that enables high switching frequencies with much lower losses than conventional products. For the main output rail, there are eight MAX20790 devices.

     ADI's MAX16602 and MAX20790 chipsets are more than 95% efficient and support 60 A to 800 A designs. This high current polyphase regulator chipset provides advanced self-protection and power supply features, including accurate temperature monitoring and fast overcurrent protection.


     The MAX16602CL8 Evaluation Kit (EV kit) is a fully assembled and tested surface mount circuit board that contains all the components required to evaluate the MAX16602 and MAX20790. MAX16602 is a PMBus compatible  Polyphase voltage regulator for AI core or Intel  VR13.HC server CPU. The IC is a 56 pin, 7 mm x 7 mm QFN package. The controller generates eight Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control signals or phases. The evaluation board is an 8-phase synchronous step-down converter, which uses a 2-phase coupling inductor to reduce the effective inductance value and size without generating excessive ripple current, thereby reducing the required output capacitance and improving the transient response.


     The evaluation suite also shows all the functions of the MAX20790 intelligent power level IC. With monolithic integration and advanced packaging technology, the IC can achieve high switching frequency with much lower loss than traditional products. There are 8 MAX20790 devices for the main output off track.
