The ADF5610 of Analog Devices allows fractional n or integer n phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizers to be used with external loop filters and external reference sources. The wideband microwave voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) design allows frequency operation from 7300 MHz to 14600 MHz at a single RF output. A series of frequency dividers with differential frequency outputs allow operating ranges from 57 MHz to 14600 MHz.

     Analog Devices' ADF5610 allows fractional n or integer n phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizers to be used with external loop filters and external reference sources. Wideband microwave voltage controlled oscillators (VCO) are designed to allow frequency operation from 7300 MHz to 14600 MHz at a single radio frequency (RF) output.

 

     A series of dividers with differential frequency outputs allow operating ranges from 57 MHz to 14600 MHz. The PLL circuit has an analog and digital power supply range of 3.1V to 3.5V and a VCO power supply range of 4.75V to 5.25V. Charge pump supply voltage can be extended up to 3.6V to improve band overlap and extend upper band range.

 

     The ADF5610 integrates a voltage controlled oscillator with a base frequency of 3650 MHz to 7300 MHz. These frequencies are doubled internally and routed to RF(OUT) pins. An additional differential output allows the dual voltage-controlled oscillator frequency to be divided by 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, or 128, allowing the user to generate RF output frequencies as low as 57 MHz.

 

     A simple 3-wire serial port interface (SPI) provides control of all on-chip registers. To save power, this partition block can be disabled through the SPI interface when it is not needed. Similarly, the output power for single-ended output and differential output are programmable through the VCO register Settings. The ADF5610 also includes various outage modes for VCO circuits and PLL circuits.
