Artesyn Embedded Power introduces high efficiency 1300W 1/4 brick power converter

     Artesyn Embedded Power, a division of Advanced Energy, announced the introduction of a new 1300W 1/4 brick DC/DC power converter, model number BDQ1300, featuring the most efficient on-board 12V output for telecommunications, computing and server devices. There are also digital controls available. The BDQ1300 power converter has a rated efficiency of more than 97% and provides power for non-isolated point-of-load converters. Because this power converter is suitable for input voltage ranges from 40V to 60V, it is an ideal power source for 48V data center and communication network equipment.

     Artesyn Embedded Power's BDQ1300 is a fully isolated DC/DC power converter with a rated output current of up to 110A and both input and output are grounded at output current. In other words, the management of electromagnetic interference and any possible failure conditions can be confined to the primary winding of the power converter. The power module features a standard high-current 1/4 brick pin output and two power pins to connect the positive output and ground, ensuring that the output current can be transmitted to the main printed circuit board. By using a larger diameter pin, the conduction loss of the module can be minimized.

     Andy Brown, Director of DC/DC Technology Marketing at Artesyn Embedded Power, said: "The BDQ1300 power converter is specially designed to ensure that it can support two different power conversion architectures, one of which is the traditional 'two-stage' conversion architecture that is popular in the market. With this architecture, the BDQ1300 can only provide power for non-isolated 12V input point-of load converters such as ATsen's LGA80D or LGA50D series power converters. In addition, the BDQ1300 also supports a hybrid conversion architecture that allows applications to convert 48V Power supply to lower voltages to drive low-voltage "direct conversion" products, such as those developed by members of the Power Stamp Alliance. With this hybrid conversion architecture, the BDQ1300 power converter can support both direct conversion networks and two-stage conversion networks."

     This power conversion module can operate between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius by convection heat only. In addition, a baseboard cooling version of the module is available. One version of the BDQ1300 does not have a 4-pin PMBus pin connection in order to minimize the control circuit design while maximizing the conversion performance. Standard PMBus control and monitoring features such as voltage and current monitoring, on/off control, protection features such as alarm and shutdown limits, temperature monitoring, and version control information are available in 4-row pin versions.
