Bourns New shielded Gigabit Ethernet /PoE+ Chip LAN transformer dedicated to high-speed telecommunications and EMI suppression applications

     Bourns has launched two Shielded Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Chip-LAN transformer lines. The Bourns SM453230-121N7YP and SM453230-231N7YP series are lightweight, miniature and split solutions that provide designers with an additional flexible board design layout compared to traditional Chip LAN modules. In addition, the Bourns new transformer supports high network speeds of up to 10 Gbps, provides 700 mA of current for PoE+, and provides a temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. They are capable of high voltage isolation at 1500 VAC/60 s and withstand pulse voltages up to 2400 V and 1.2/50 μs. These advanced features are really well suited for high-speed telecommunications and network equipment products.

     The two transformers differ in inductance, insertion loss, and capacitance characteristics due to the range of bitrates they handle. The Bourns® SM453230-231N7YP supports 1, 2.5 and 5 Gbes, while the SM453230-121N7YP supports 10 Gbes. The former can be used with Bourns SRF2012A-801Y common mode patch inductor, and the latter can be used with SRF2012-900YA. These center-tapped mini-transformers are wound around a drum core and covered with ferrite plates to simulate the closed magnetic circuit of a ring core. The center tap enables common-mode rejection even without additional common-mode filters, and the new series helps reduce EMI troubleshooting efforts.

     Both new Bourns lines use fully automated manufacturing processes to improve component consistency, quality and reliability. In addition, the process can be mass-produced to shorten delivery times and reduce costs. Bourns SM453230-121N7YP and SM453230-231N7YP GbE Chip-LAN transformers are available now. The full range is RoHS compliant and halogen-free.
