Bourns introduces AC surge protectors that comply with IEC Class I and Class II standards

     Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, has introduced the new 1270 and 1280 series dual rail AC Surge Protectors (SPD). The SPD series meets IEC/EN 61643-11 Class I + Class II/T1 + T2, and the 1280 model features advanced thermal circuit breakers (TD+) that provide enhanced protection without upstream overcurrent protection and are equipped with window fault indicators and remote alarms. To help monitor the operation of the surge protector.

     Bourns' latest SPD is designed to deal with the risk of thermal runaway under persistent overvoltage and surge conditions, which can pose a fire hazard. The 1270 and 1280 series offer superior surge protection, withstanding surge energy up to 80 kA 8/20 µs in each mode, with high rated short circuit currents up to 50 kArms, and pulse current capacities up to 12.5 kA 10/350 µs.

     For easy replacement, both series are pluggable modules designed to be installed on the load side of the front end of the main switchboard and close to sensitive terminals or devices with lightning rods (LPS). The features and performance of the Bourns 1270 and 1280 series make them ideal for a variety of energy storage applications, such as electric vehicle charging stations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and green photovoltaic and wind energy systems.
