Bourns introduces MEMS environmental sensors designed for ultra-low pressure sensing

     Bourns has introduced a new environmental pressure sensor model that offers high accuracy, 3.3V and ultra-low pressure range capabilities. The Bourns BPS125 pressure sensor is based on state-of-the-art micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) technology and delivers precise performance in miniature package sizes. The Bourns model BPS125 is designed for space-constrained 3.3V digital systems that require very sensitive and accurate readings, capable of measuring pressures in the range of 250 to 500pa, producing amplified, calibrated pressure readings that can be accessed from a digital interface.

     The fully calibrated and compensated digital output offered in Bourns' new models helps reduce processor workloads, eliminating the need for A/D conversions while providing long-term stability for reliable repeatability. The combination of features offered by the BPS125 sensor also helps improve the performance and efficiency of the end application, making it an ideal solution for a range of industrial, consumer, and medium/low risk medical designs, including portable oxygen generators, nebulizers, CPAP devices, diagnostic spirometers, and gas chromatography devices.

     The Bourns model BPS125 is highly sensitive and stable over a temperature range of 0°C to +60°C (six Sigma process) with a total error band (TEB) of 1.5%FS and a lifetime drift of 0.5%FS. The BPS125 model has an I2C digital output and offers 250 and 500 pa calibrations that help minimize system calibration requirements and help support system uptime. Easy to integrate, these new SMT board-mounted pressure sensors also help reduce development time.
