Bourns introduces a series of diodes with the highest through-current capability for two-way power transient voltage suppressors

     Bourns introduces a series of bidirectional power transient voltage suppressor (PTVS) diodes with the highest current passing capacity for Bourns. Available in a compact form-factor DFN package, the Bourns PTVS20-015C-H is capable of handling a 20 kA, 8/20 µs surge at a low voltage of 15 V, and these features provide effective electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection in applications requiring high-power DC line protection.

     The Bourns  PTVS20-015C-H PTVS diode complies with IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD protection and has a low clamping voltage at peak pulse current, helping to meet IEC 61000-4-5 8/20 μs surge protection requirements.

     In order to support high currents, such as up to 60 kA, in next-generation applications, designers often have to parallel many components with low current processing capabilities. It is now possible to use a single component that can handle 20 kA, and parallel a smaller number of components to achieve the same level of protection, not only reducing the total BOM, but also helping to save valuable space on the PCB
