Bourns, the world's leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, introduces four new high-power, very low ohmic current detection resistor families. Bourns' new current measurement equipment is designed to save energy in power electronics designs while maximizing sensing performance.
The series features a low temperature coefficient (TCR) that provides operating accuracy and excellent long-term stability over a wide temperature range. Their extremely low resistance levels, low thermal electromagnetic potential (EMF) and high-power processing capabilities make them ideal solutions for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, as well as power electronics such as battery management systems (BMS), switching power supplies (SMPS) and motor drives.
Current detection resistor products are more economical than other technologies due to their precise measurement accuracy and relatively low cost, and are being used more and more widely in high-power applications. Bourns developed the series to assist designers in meeting monitoring accuracy to provide current readings that help circuits operate efficiently.
Bourns' new CSI series is built with electron beam welded (EBW) resistors and copper alloy terminals and is available in two - and four-terminal options. The two terminals are available in three different package sizes: 5930, 3920 and 2512. The four-terminal device has a package size of 4026 and enables very accurate four-wire Kelvin (K) resistance measurements.
Metal alloy current detection components support a low thermal electromagnetic potential (EMF) and a low temperature coefficient (TCR) of ±50 PPM/°C over a temperature range of 20 °C to 60 °C. Each of the four new current detection resistors has a resistance value of 0.2 milliohm, and customers can choose from a variety of low resistance options and power levels up to 15 W.
