Bourns introduces two high-current gas discharge tubes for AC and DC power supply designs

     Bourns, a leading manufacturer of electronic components for power, protection and sensing solutions, today announced the addition of two new high-current dual-electrode gas discharge tubes to its high Energy Gas discharge tube (GDT) family. The Bourns® GDT225EX and GDT230E series are designed to provide extremely high energy surge protection for AC and DC power supply designs. These high-energy GDTS meet the enhanced requirements of the international IEC Mine Protection Area, UL 1449 and IEC 61643-11 standards and are ideal protection solutions for existing and next-generation applications, especially where excessive electrical surges are frequent.

     Offering an impressive range of features, both Bourns models offer DC breakdown voltage options ranging from 500 V to 800 V, providing reliable protection for compact AC power line applications and setting new surge protection standards for high-power designs while ensuring compatibility with most common AC voltage system configurations.

     The Bourns GDT225EX series has a maximum surge rating of 120 kA (8/20 μs waveform) and features a compact 20 mm diameter flat design. The GDT230E series offers a maximum surge rating of up to 160 kA and features a flat 30mm diameter design. These new families also give designers more flexibility to choose different voltage configurations for low-voltage networks without compromising on surge protection performance.
