Compact DC-DC converters for harsh rail and industrial conditions

     Murata announced the launch of the IRS-Q12 series, its latest package of 1/16 brick DC-DC power converters from Murata. Board mount Power modules feature advanced assembly technology, 2250Vdc isolation, basic insulation systems and industry-leading efficiency. In addition, high reliability, safety features and optional package configurations provide unmatched performance in harsh environmental conditions.

     The 50-watt IRS-Q12 has an input voltage range of 9-36Vdc, extending to the 18-75Vdc provided by the previously released IRS-Q48 series. The new series includes module variations of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, 15V and 24Vdc, with output power up to 50W. In addition, the Vin range of 9-36Vdc meets the requirements of EN50155 for a nominal Vin of 24/28Vdc, including Brown Out and transient conditions, as well as a nominal 12Vin for industrial applications.

     The series is available in standard or flanged base plates for a variety of conduction cooling configurations. Other notable features include on/off controls with positive or negative logic, short-circuit protection, and overvoltage and overtemperature protection. The IRS-Q12 topology also supports pre-biased output at startup to eliminate reverse currents that can damage critical circuits. These advantages make it ideal for demanding railway, industrial, lighting, smart grid, and other harsh environmental applications where the system bus voltage is between 9Vdc and 36Vdc.
