
Cosel Ltd. is releasing a highly reliable 40W DC/DC converter, the MGF40. The MGF40 series features an industry-standard 1x1-inch, six-sided shielded metal housing designed to Cosel's exacted standards for performance and reliability, giving the company a world-class product with a failure rate of less than 30 parts per million (ppm). To guarantee its service life, the MGF40 does not contain aluminum or tantalum capacitors. The MGF40's long component life makes it one of the most reliable DC/DC converters in its class. The MGF40 series also comes with a long, encouraging warranty of 10 years.
The MGF40 series is suitable for a variety of demanding applications and offers three input voltage options: 4.5V-13V, 9V-36V, 18V-76V. The single output series MGFS40 is available in 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 15V output voltages and can also be adjusted within a range of ±10% using a resistor bridge or potentiometer. The dual-output MGFW40 is available in ±12V (+24V) and ±15V (+30V) output voltage options.
At low input levels, the output power of the MGFS and MGFW 4005 versions with input voltages from 4.5V to 13V is limited to 30W, and synchronous rectification efficiency can reach 88%. MGFS and MGFW4024 with input voltages of 9V to 36V and MGFS and MGFW4048 with input voltages of 18V to 76V typically provide up to 42W of output power and 92% conversion efficiency. The MGF40 series is suitable for applications with high power requirements, with an operating temperature range of -40 ° C to +85 ° C, 4.5V to 13V inputs can also operate at temperatures below +105 ° C, and 9V to 36V and 18V to 76V inputs can operate at temperatures below +110 ° C.
The MGF40 includes overcurrent and overvoltage protection, and it also has thermal protection to prevent overheating, which automatically shuts down the unit when the maximum permissible safe temperature is reached. Negative logic is provided as standard, the unit is on when the RC pin is at low power level; When the RC pin is on high power, it is off. Ordering the MGF40 also offers the option to use forward logic (option R). The control pin allows the user to remotely turn the device on/off. Option G can be used for applications that require a low leakage current or that do not connect Y-type capacitors between inputs and outputs.
According to the SR-332 Phase 4 Telcordia Reliability Prediction program, the MGF40 series has a very high mean time between failures (MTBF) of 3,153,843 hours at 100% load and +25 ° C ambient temperatures, and 675,688 hours at +60 ° C ambient temperatures. The calculation process is based on the device being fixed to the ground and controllable (GB).
The MGF40 series is rugged and has been tested to withstand harsh environments and has passed a three-axis vibration test equivalent to 10 G's and a shock test equivalent to 50 G's. The MGF40 series features A metal six-side shielded housing with a high-attenuation input filter that provides excellent anti-electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance, with conductance and radiation data at a test distance of 3 meters that is much lower than the Class A devices in EN55032:2012. The MGF40 series features a brass nickel-plated housing measuring 25.4x25.4x9.9 mm (1x1x0.39 in) and uses lead-free copper-plated pins. The product weighs only 30 grams.
