Cypress announces two new TrueTouch capacitive touch screen controllers with advanced features

     Cypress Semiconductor Corporation announced the introduction of the CYTT21X/31X TrueTouch family of capacitive touch screen controllers that add advanced features to smartphones, e-books and low-cost tablets. The CYTT31X supports passive stylus input with a 2.5mm nib and is suitable for languages such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese that require reliable writing and enhanced character recognition. The CYTT21X controller supports face detection to avoid unexpected hangups. This feature allows the touch screen to detect faces up to 25mm away, eliminating the need for infrared proximity sensors and reducing bill of Materials (BOM) costs.

     The Cypress single-layer Independent Multipoint (SLIM) sensor architecture used in the TrueTouch CYTT21X/31X controller creates ultra-thin smartphones and tablets, further reducing BOM costs. These controllers offer the industry's best accuracy and linearity for a wide range of finger sizes, glove materials and glove thicknesses up to 5mm, including ski gloves. In addition, it is possible to switch automatically between glove, stylus and finger modes without requiring the user to change Settings. The series also boasts industry-leading water resistance and wet finger tracking, as well as the industry's best electronic noise resistance against third-party chargers and displays. The CYTT21X/31X controller includes up to 48 IO and one I2C interface, and 44 IO and one I2C and SPI interface.

The CYTT21X/31X controller is based on a 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ M core processor known for its high performance MIPS/mW. Using Cypress's proprietary DualSense™ technology, the TrueTouch solution delivers both self-capacitance and mutual capacitance measurements on the same chip, providing the industry's best water resistance and wet finger and toe capabilities for smoother handling in real-world applications such as rain, fog or sweat. The unique features of the TrueTouch product family are derived from an industry-leading portfolio of more than 100 capacitive touch sensing patents.
