Cypress offers a fully integrated USB-C charger solution for power adapter Oems

     Cypress Semiconductor Corp has announced the EZ-PD PAG1 power adapter solution, the latest product in its USB-C Protocol Power supply (PD) family. PAG1 is a complete AC-DC power supply solution with integrated USB Protocol Power supply (PD) controllers, enabling Oems to create reliable, efficient, and cost-effective power adapters for the growing USB-C charger market.

     Cypress is the market leader in USB-C technology. EZ-PD PAG1 is a dual-chip USB-C power solution that once again leads the market by integrating major primary, secondary and USB PD controller components. With its advanced features, PAG1 offers Oems the industry's best efficiency, increased reliability and reduced material costs. PAG1 is fully programmable, making it easy for OEM designers to configure their USB charger solutions to support multiple Charging standards, including: PD3.0 (PPS), QC4/4+, Apple Charging, QC 3.0/2.0, Samsung AFC and BC 1.2.

     USB-C is a new connectivity standard that allows data to be transmitted over the same cable and standard positive and negative universal connectors while simultaneously powering different devices. USB-C can provide up to 100W of power output and can support different interface standards through the same port. As more and more devices tend to use the same charger or power adapter to charge, the cumbersome various types of dedicated power adapters will no longer be necessary, which can simplify the design and reduce e-waste.

     Noman Akhtar, research analyst for industrial semiconductors and sensors at IHS Markit, said: "Given the versatility and benefits that USB-C brings to the market, IHS Markit expects the number of devices with at least one USB-C port to grow from 300 million in 2016 to approximately 5 billion in 2021, a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 70%." USB Type-C, an advanced wired interface technology with fast charging capabilities and the ability to synchronize data between many devices, will modernize many areas of consumer electronics."

     COMPUTEX 2019 will be held in Taipei, China from May 28 to June 1, during which the PAG1 series will be officially unveiled. In addition, the EZ-PD BCR solution makes it easy for Oems to replace the barrel plug with USB-C in any electronic product that consumes less than 100W. Regardless of the product, Cypress can provide a complete end-to-end USB protocol power solution from the power supply side to the receiving side, thus laying a solid foundation for realizing the vision of "USB-C drives everything."
