Dialog expands its IoT connectivity portfolio with the latest ultra-low-power Wi-Fi SoCs

Dialog, a supplier of highly integrated battery management, AC/DC power conversion, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and industrial ics, announced the launch of a highly integrated, ultra-low power Wi-Fi networking SoC chip, the DA16200, as well as two modules utilizing Dialog's VirtualZero technology.      Dialog, a supplier of highly integrated battery management, AC/DC power conversion, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and industrial ics, announced the launch of a highly integrated, ultra-low power Wi-Fi networking SoC chip, the DA16200, as well as two modules utilizing Dialog's VirtualZero technology. Breakthrough battery life for Wi-Fi-connected, battery-powered IoT devices.

 

     With the rise of IoT devices that require constant Wi-Fi connectivity, such as smart door locks, thermostats and security cameras, design engineers are being challenged to develop solutions with better battery life. Unlike competing Wi-Fi SoCs, the DA16200 is specifically optimized to support these battery-powered IoT devices. The ultra low power consumption achieved by the VirtualZero technology of the DA16200 allows the device to always be connected to the Internet and enable battery life of one year to three to five years.

 

     The SoC uses an algorithm-driven design to provide the lowest power solution for longer battery life while maintaining Wi-Fi connectivity, ensuring end users maintain control of their devices. The highly integrated DA16200 autonomously runs the entire Wi-Fi system, security and network protocol stack without the need for an external network processor, CPU or microcontroller. It includes an 802.11b/g/n radio (PHY), baseband processor, MAC, on-chip memory, dedicated encryption engine, and ARM® Cortex-M4F host network application processor, all integrated on a single silicon chip.

 

     To achieve wider coverage without sacrificing battery life, the DA16200 also integrates a power amplifier (PA) and low noise amplifier (LNA), giving users industry-leading output power and receiver sensitivity. In addition to the DA16200 SoC chip, Dialog also introduced two DA16200-based modules that provide the flexibility and design options to easily and simply implement Wi-Fi, ensuring that all customers benefit from the SoC's high integration and configurable ease of use. Both modules include 4MB flash memory and all required RF components, including a crystal oscillator, RF lumped filter, an onboard ceramic antenna or U.F.L connector for connecting external antennas.

 

     Both modules are fully certified for use worldwide, including FCC, IC, CE, Telec, Korea and SRRC certifications. In addition, the SoC chip and both modules are Wi-Fi CERTIFIED® for interconnection.Sean McGrath, senior vice President, Connectivity and Audio Technologies Business Unit, Dialog Semiconductor, said: "Dialog is the proven Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity technology leader, shipping more than 100 million BLE chips annually, and these new Wi-Fi products will further strengthen our position.      The DA16200 SoC chip and two modules feature industry-leading security protocols, including the latest generation of hardware encryption engines and authentication standards to protect against potential threats. These products are all compliant with WPA/2/3 personal and enterprise encryption standards and have TLS and HTTPs upper-layer security. In addition, the SoC and module can be safely started and debugged, and provide secure storage.
