
Dialog Semiconductor announced that EcoXiP™ octal xSPI non-volatile memory (NVM), an addition to its Adesto Technologies acquisition, has been optimized for use with Renesas' Arm® based RZ/A2M microprocessors (MPUs). RZ/A2M is designed for embedded AI high-speed image processing in smart home appliances, service robots, industrial machines and other applications, and EcoXiP, the lowest power consumption octal xSPI NOR flash memory device in the industry, will bring system level advantages to RZ/A2M customers.
For systems using Renesas MPU, EcoXiP enables ultra-fast instantaneous startup and real-time system response. It also provides efficient AI weight storage for low power AI inference. in addition, EcoXiP enables MPUs like RZ/A2M to run in execution-in-place (XiP) mode, executing code directly from external flash memory.

EcoXiP was one of the first NOR flash devices to support the Extended SPI (xSPI) communication protocol with simultaneous Read/write (RWW) capabilities that enable higher transfer rates and lower latency for flash memory, providing significant advantages for wireless upgrades and data logging. EcoXiP eliminates the need for expensive on-chip embedded flash memory in many emerging applications and offers very good power, system cost, and performance benefits. It achieves significantly lower power consumption than other octal devices, and its performance is significantly better than quad SPI devices.
