Dialog introduces the first high-voltage GreenPAK IC for motor drive applications

Dialog Semiconductor Corporation announced the launch of its first motor-driven configurable mixed signal IC (CMIC), the SLG47105, which offers the unique benefits of both configurable logic and configurable simulation with a high voltage output in a small 2 x 3 mm QFN package.

     The SLG47105 is the latest addition to Dialog's widely adopted GreenPAK product family. The device provides design engineers with a more cost-effective programmable option for primary nonvolatile memory (NVM), enabling them to integrate both digital and analog system functions when designing consumer and industrial motor applications, and significantly reduce the number of external components, board size, and power consumption.

 

     This latest device can drive two brushed DC motors, A single stepper motor, solenoid valves, or any other load requiring up to 1.5A RMS current per output, and operating voltages up to 13.2V. In addition to standard protection features such as overtemperature, undervoltage, and overcurrent protection, the SLG47105 includes configurable digital and analog resources to help customers create customized protection and motor control mechanisms such as current or voltage regulation, stall detection, or motor soft start for greater system reliability and battery efficiency.

 

     The low-power features offered by the SLG47105 include internal reference voltage, power-on reset, an oscillator, and more advanced digital resources such as a pulse width modulator. The current consumption of the whole chip in standby mode is as low as 70nA, ensuring longer battery life. Compared to discrete solutions used in the industry today, this device can help reduce the price of the total solution, reduce the bill of materials (BOM), reduce the PCB size, and achieve lower overall system current consumption.

 

     John McDonald, vice President of Marketing for Dialog Semiconductor's Configurable Mixed Signal Business unit, said: "Adding high-voltage capabilities to the GreenPAK product family opens up a huge opportunity in the motor space. We have shipped nearly 5 billion CMIC chips, and this new product will further accelerate GreenPAK's broader application in brush and stepper motors, from industrial applications to consumer and smart home applications."

 

     In addition to the launch of the SLG47105, Dialog also introduced its latest GreenPAK Designer software suite. Previous releases used GreenPAK Designer software to configure, optimize, simulate, test, and evaluate GreenPAK designs. The GreenPAK Designer software now includes more simulation capabilities, including external components: from passive components such as shunt resistors to more complex components such as motors, making the development of the entire GreenPAK product family faster and easier.
