Diode comes with dual purpose PI3USB9201 USB BC 1.2 detector

     Diodes introduces a dual-purpose PI3USB9201 USB BC 1.2 detector that combines host and client circuitry to enable designers to optimize BoM size and cost, adding USB Type-C interface circuitry to devices, Examples include laptops, tablets, smartphones, drones and home appliances.

     The PI3USB9201 is now being manufactured in a 2mm x 2mm 12-connector QFN package. Current solutions require a dedicated device in host or client mode, but the PI3USB9201 is different in that developers can fully support the reversible bidirectional elasticity of the USB Type-C interface with a single chip.

     The PI3USB9201 reports detection results to the system through the 1MHz I2C interface. Four-pin optional slave addresses help avoid bus collisions. When set up as a master, the device status can be broadcast as a standard Downlink port (SDP), Charge Downlink port (CDP), or dedicated Downlink port (DCP) via a USB D+/D- pin to comply with BC 1.2 specifications. The PI3USB9201, as a client, monitors the D+/D- pin to detect the host type of the link.

     The PI3USB9201 features a differential pass-through USB switcher that supports host mode USB switcher pass-through, allowing the system to be booted with a mouse or keyboard. Other attributes include a wide supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V to ensure reliable operation of battery-powered devices, as well as sub-1µA energy-saving current in off mode.
