Diodes Corporation introduces the AP3917 series of universal AC-DC non-isolated step-down power switchers

     Diodes announced the introduction of the AP3917 series of universal AC-DC non-isolated step-down power switchers for a variety of low-power applications, such as small devices powered by off-line power and Internet of Things endpoints. The series includes AP3917B (170mA rated load), AP3917C (270mA) and AP3917D (370mA).

     The AP3917BS7-13 comes in a surface-adhesive SO-7 package and is available in units of 4,000. Due to the widespread use of a variety of small home, office and industrial units as stand-alone units or as part of the Internet of Things, there is an increasing need to provide direct and non-isolated AC-DC conversion in a lightweight format with high efficiency and low standby current.

     The AP3917 series buck switchers provide efficient off-line power conversion for light loads, supporting both discontinuous and continuous on-mode. The full wave rectified AC input voltage between 85VAC and 265VAC can be converted into a rated 8.0V DC output. The non-isolated design eliminates the need for external transformers, and the number of external components is very small, saving space and bill of material costs.

     The AP3917 step-down switcher consumes less than 30mW of power without load, making it particularly suitable for small devices connected to AC sockets and operating in standby mode for long periods of time. The low power consumption and small size of the AP3917 are also suitable for iot devices that are constantly connected but not necessarily operational.
