Diodes announced the availability of a PCIe 3.0 packet switcher, the PI7C9X3G816GP, in flexible 2-port, 3-port, 4-port, 5-port, and 8-port configurations, supporting 16-channel operations. The switcher is designed to meet the need for advanced performance, particularly in network and telecommunications infrastructure, security systems, failover systems, artificial intelligence and deep learning, NAS, HBA cards, and data center product applications. The wide operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C is also beneficial for a growing number of industrial product applications, such as embedded, industrial PC (IPC) and industrial control.
The PI7C9X3G816GP packet switcher uses a proprietary architecture to provide greater flexibility and performance. It can be configured with multiple port/channel width combinations, such as upstream, downstream, and cross-domain terminal (CDEP), to support fan-out and dual-host connections.
The industry-unique integrated PCIe 3.0 clock buffer reduces the number of components, simplifies product design, and helps reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs. The PI7C9X3G816GP supports three reference frequency structures: universal, Independent Reference without Extension (SRNS) and Independent Reference Extension (SRIS). The switcher has multiple direct memory access (DMA) channels embedded in it to facilitate efficient communication activities between the host (or hosts) and connected endpoints.
Other features, such as error handling, advanced error reporting, end-to-end data protection with error correction, hot insertion, and unexpected removal, provide greater reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS). Built-in thermal sensors also provide real-time feedback on operating temperature. Advanced power management features mean that PI7C9X3G816GP meets the most stringent energy saving requirements for creating a green data center. The packet switcher, for example, supports seven power states to effectively match power requirements, and any unused hot-plug ports are kept in a low-power state. Designers can use advanced diagnostic software tools, including PHY Eye™, MAC Viewer™ (embedded LA), and PCIBUDDY™, to develop complete systems.
The Diodes Incorporated PI7C9X3G816GP comes in a 324-ball BGA high-efficiency cladding package with dimensions of 19mm x 19mm.
