Diodes dual buck converters improve modem efficiency

     Diodes Incorporated introduces the PAM2322AGEAR, a dual buck converter that offers a pair of high-efficiency pulse-width modulated buck DC/DC converters in a 2.5mm x 2.00mm miniature package designed to meet the requirements of wireless and DSL modem applications. The device's innovative pulse jump mode minimizes static current under light load operation, helping to extend the battery life of portable devices.

     With a duty cycle ratio of 100%, the new converter allows the system to operate even at the lowest supply voltage, thus further saving power. Available in a 17-pad W-FLGA2050 package, the device offers an input voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V and can support the use of a single positive or negative Li-ion polymer battery, multiple alkaline or nickel-metal Hydride batteries, USB power supplies and a variety of other standard power supplies.

     The PAM2322AGEAR is available with 1A current and 1.8V fixed voltage output, or 2A current and 0.9V adjustable voltage output to VIN, both with separate high level active channel enable pins. The device integrates an internal power switch and synchronous rectifier into each output, and with an operating frequency of up to 1.2MHz, the size and number of required external components are minimized.
