Diodes Incorporated announced the introduction of the PI4ULS3V4857, an SD 3.0-compatible bidirectional level converter that can be used in communications, consumer and computing system applications including smartphones, laptops, SD/MicroSD card readers, wireless access points and 5G femtocells.
The PI4ULS3V4857 converts host side voltages from 1.2V to 1.8V to memory card voltage signals of 1.8V or 3.0V, and vice versa. This allows SD 3.0 memory cards, which have much shorter transfer times than other data storage solutions, to be used in conjunction with the latest low-voltage microprocessors, SOCs, and ASics.
PI4ULS3V4857 has a clock rate of 208MHz and can support the fastest SD card interface -SD 3.0 SDR104. The 6-bit device is also suitable for SDR50 (100MHz), SDR25 (50MHz), DDR50 (50MHz) and SDR12 (25MHz) operation. Backward compatibility means it can also handle the older SD 2.0 high-speed (50MHz) and default speed (25MHz) modes.
By eliminating the need for an external level converter, a significant amount of board space can be saved. The built-in 100mA LDO voltage regulator and electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter help further reduce the number of system components and limit bill of material costs. The converter equipment is also integrated with 8kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, thus ensuring long-term operation.
