     Diodes Corporation announced an enhanced version of its popular sound driver to address the needs of small and portable devices. The PAM8904E comes in a lightweight package that delivers higher performance at lower voltages. Micro piezoelectric and ceramic sounders are now available in the form of audio user interfaces for a wide range of product applications such as trackers, alarms, health monitors, safety devices and smart sensors. The microphone is small enough to fit on portable and wearable devices such as IoT-enabled trackers, and can also support tiny smart sensors that monitor the environment, including security detectors, water alarms, smoke alarms, and carbon dioxide alarms.

 

     The PAM8904EGPR comes in W-QFN2020-12 Type A package with dimensions of 2.00mm × 2.00mm (width) × 0.80mm (height). The PAM8904E microphone driver has been carefully designed to meet the needs of the smallest applications operating at very low voltages. The PAM8904E requires very few external components to support single-ended and differential output modes.

 

     The device has a wide input voltage supply range of 1.5V to 5.5V, and the turn-off current consumption does not exceed 1µA. In addition, the microphone can also receive input signals between 20Hz and 300kHz. Despite its small size, the PAM8904E integrates charge pump boost converters that can operate in 1x, 2x and 3x modes. As a result, the PAM8904E can produce a peak output voltage of up to 18V at a supply voltage of 3V or 27V at a supply voltage of 4.5V.

 

     This enhanced product is now capable of driving sound loads up to 47nF, much higher than the drive capacity of other devices. Many other devices typically drive only 15nF loads and require a higher supply voltage. In addition to the above advantages, the PAM8904E also has functions such as overheat shutdown, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, automatic shutdown and wake-up system to help extend the service life of battery-powered devices.
