Diodes introduces a synchronous DC-DC buck converter

     Diodes Incorporated introduced the AP62600 synchronous DC-DC buck converter for point-of-load (POL) conversion in applications such as televisions, displays, white goods, home appliances, consumer electronics and large integrated circuits. The AP62600 has a supply voltage output of up to 6A from 4.5V to 18V. The device incorporates high - and low-side integrated MOSFETs with resistors of 36 Mω and 14 Mω, respectively.

     The AP62600 extends the best-in-class EMI performance of the latest AP64xxx (40V) and AP63xxx (32V) DC-DC converters. The AP62600's proprietary gate drive scheme, combined with fast transient response, reduces electromagnetic interference from high-frequency radiation while minimizing switching node ringing.

     Although the AP62600 has a high degree of functional integration, its package size is only 2 mm x 3 mm, which can be used in the smallest products. The optional switching frequencies of 400kHz, 800kHz, and 1.2MHz provide greater flexibility to engineering teams, allowing them to optimize component selection to increase efficiency or reduce form factor.

     There is a good power indicator to alert the user to any failure conditions that may occur. The programmable soft start mode controls the inrush current at power-on, enabling designers to achieve power sequencing when powering large integrated devices such as FPGAs, ASics, DSPS, and microprocessors with multiple AP62600s.

     High efficiency can be achieved at all loads using pulse frequency modulation (PFM) technology. Other modes offered include pulse width modulation (PWM) for optimal ripple performance and Ultrasonic mode (USM), which avoids audible noise under light loads.
