Diodes introduces automotive specification compliant three-channel linear LED drivers that provide independent control of brightness and color

     Diodes introduces a new linear LED driver that meets automotive specifications, allowing users to independently control brightness and color across the three channels. Car designs increase the need for multi-channel LED drivers that allow passengers to easily change the interior lighting colors to suit different moods. These drives enable both dynamic turn signals and grille lights for different road conditions, effectively increasing safety levels. The AL1783Q driver allows LED current setting via an external REF pin, individual dimming control for each channel, and pulse width modulation (PWM) to perform LED dimming. This product is ideal for a variety of internal and external lighting applications for electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

     The automotive industry is moving towards the use of higher voltage rails to power vehicle subsystems, and battery voltages are also increasing from 12V and 24V to 48V. In response to this development, the AL1783Q is designed to operate on a 55V rail, giving it an advantage over other LED drivers that typically only operate at up to 40V. This feature also enables AL1783Q products to support increasing LED chain voltages.

     Another advantage of this driver is that it can deliver up to 66% more current per channel (up to 250mA compared to the standard 150mA), resulting in greater flexibility to support a larger LED current range in a wider range of lighting applications. For greater flexibility, the current in each of the three channels can be set using a separate resistor.

     Heat resistance is an important consideration when designing linear LED drivers. For this reason, the AL1783Q products are available in a thermally efficient TSOP-16EP package with an exposed cooling pad for excellent heat dissipation. To improve reliability at the system level, the AL1783Q features a variety of fault detection features, including undervoltage lock (UVLO) and overvoltage protection (OVP), as well as the ability to detect open and short LED conditions.
