Diodes introduces linear LED controllers that meet automotive specifications

     Diodes introduces automotive specification AL5816Q linear LED controller for automotive LED lighting. The AL5816Q has an operating voltage range of 4.5V to 60V, provides an output drive current of 15mA to control the LED light through an external BJT, and supplies a constant current of several mA to 1.5A, with higher LED current if MOSFETs are used. The AL5816Q enables external transistor optimization and is ideal for many automotive LED lighting applications, such as taillight sets, interior lighting, dashboard and license plate lighting.

     Due to the AL5816Q's combination of high input voltage and high output drive current, coupled with a variety of high-voltage PWM dimming features, automotive manufacturers can use this product to significantly reduce the BOM for various automotive applications. The 5-pin SOT25 package requires very few external components, does not require a separate switching inductor, and has a high-voltage PWM input for LED dimming.

     The AL5816Q is available in a SOT25 package. With feedback pin operation requiring only 200mV, the AL5816Q precisely controls the LED drive current while minimizing voltage differences and reducing LED system power consumption, especially when compared to traditional linear LED controllers.

     With its high output drive current, the AL5816Q can drive a single LED, LED chain or multiple LED channels to meet the needs of automotive manufacturers. PWM dimming inputs can accept signals operating up to 50kHz. The device also has a number of protection features, including input undervoltage lock and overheat shutdown.
