Diodes introduces secondary side multi-mode synchronous rectification MOSFET driver

     Diodes Incorporated announced the introduction of the APR348 Secondary side multimode synchronous rectifier MOSFET driver, designed for AC-DC rectifier circuits for general consumer applications, laptops, and USB adapters.

     The APR348 is capable of driving external MOSFETs in high - and low-side secondary synchronous rectifier configurations. This flexible and efficient device supports secondary side output voltage up to 20V in continuous on-mode (CCM), discontinuous on-mode (DCM), and quasi-resonant (QR) flyback modes. These options give the development team complete freedom to perform synchronous corrections.

     Manufacturers often choose an external MOSFET when implementing synchronous rectification because it provides a more efficient converter. Because the APR348 requires few additional external components, engineers can still achieve very small and efficient power supply designs to meet the needs of user departments.

     A key design feature of the APR348 is fast opening and closing times, which reduce power losses and ensure safe operation in CCM mode. The device also has a blanking period for setting the minimum on-period of the MOSFET; This significantly improves performance by limiting the impact of voltage ringing.

     The APR348 also has a light load (LL) mode that uses an internal timer to skip cycles when there is no load or when light load is detected only at the output. This design provides lower standby power when not under load. In addition, the high-voltage side switch does not require additional transformer windings, further reducing material costs.
