Diodes introduces the AL8866Q LED driver, expanding its product portfolio to meet automotive standards

     Diodes Corporation announced the launch of the AL8866Q LED driver, expanding its product portfolio to meet automotive standards. This DC-switched LED driver controller drives external MOSFETs and supports step-down, step-down, step-down, and single-ended single-side inductor converter (SEPIC) topologies for high-power LED lighting systems. Product applications include DRL, fog lights, turn signals, brake/stop lights, etc.

     The AL8866Q operates over a wide voltage range of 4.7V to 85V, covering the usual 12V, 24V and 48V battery rails. Flexible voltage selection and multi-mode work allow lighting designers to standardize on a single component type, streamlining inventory and simplifying the design process.

     The AL8866Q has a fixed Frequency (400kHz) peak current mode control architecture, and uses Spectrum Frequency Modulation technology to improve EMI performance, complying with the most stringent CISPR 25 Class 5 standards.

     The AL8866Q uses DIM pins, supports LED current analog dimming and PWM dimming, and has a 1% reference tolerance for better brightness control and improved matching between lamps. This driver has a greater than 100:1 analog dimming range and achieves ±12% output current accuracy at low analog dimming levels (20%), which is more accurate than comparable LED drivers. PWM dimming (0.1 to 1kHz) can achieve a 100:1 dynamic range.

     The AL8866Q has a built-in soft start function that gently increases the inductor and switching current to minimize possible overvoltages and overcurrents at the output. This device has an open-leak fault output that can represent a variety of fault conditions, including LED output overvoltage, LED output open/short circuit, Cycle-by-Cycle overcurrent protection, sensing resistance and short-circuit inductor/diode detection, diode open circuit, and overheat shutdown.

     The AL8866Q is available in SO-8EP and U-DFN3030-10 package options, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. AL8866QSP-13 (SO8-EP) and AL8866QFN-7 (U-DFN3030-10) are now available. A standard version of AL8866 is also available for industrial and commercial product applications.
