Diodes introduces two automotive LED drivers that combine powerful performance, simple design and flexibility to meet a wide range of interior and exterior lighting applications, such as fog lights, positioning lights, rear lights and door lights. The AL8860Q and AL8861Q comply with automotive specifications and support PPAP files. AL8860Q and AL8861Q comply with AEC-Q100 Grade 1 specification.
With a wide operating voltage range (4.5V to 40V), the AL8860Q and AL8861Q are able to withstand load drop events and operate normally under low starting voltage conditions that stop and start product applications. This driver uses hysteresis mode step-down control, simplifies feedback loop design, and has only four external components, so it is extremely stable. Designers can save space and minimize electronic material lists; This is because the driver uses an integrated main power MOSFETs and a programmable switching frequency of up to 1MHz, so small output inductors can be used.
The device can drive loads up to 40W with a 1.5A power supply, depending on the supply voltage and external components. In addition, both drivers support analog dimming from 0.3V to 2.5V, and high-precision PWM dimming from 1% to 100%, providing a variety of automatic or user-adjusted brightness controls. Because of this flexibility, the drive can be used for a variety of different product applications inside and outside the vehicle, allowing designers to effectively create multiple lamp types using the same drive and simplify manufacturing inventory management.
A full range of built-in protection features help ensure reliability and safety, including short-circuit and open LED protection and overheat shutdown. In addition, the AL8861Q also has current sensing resistance and short circuit protection. Both drivers are packaged in a high-power density, SOP-8EP package that provides analog and PWM dimming with a single control pin. This control pin and its analog dimming function require only one capacitor for slow start of LED current.
