Diodes Incorporated announced the introduction of two highly integrated synchronous buck converters that simplify the circuit design of automotive Power systems with their Power Good output and innovative EMI mitigation for noise-sensitive applications. The AP63356Q and AP63357Q are 3.5A converters with input voltage ranges from 3.8V to 32V. The converter utilizes peak current mode control and on-chip high - and low-end power MOSFETs to minimize external components, reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs and board size.
Both devices have a power good indicator with an internal 5MΩ pull-up resistor that can be used for power sorting. To further aid sequencing, their enable pins have accurate voltage thresholds that adjust the power-on and undervoltage lock (UVLO) of the input voltage device. The high-voltage function of the EN pin allows direct connection to the VIN to simplify automatic startup of the device. When disabled, the converter consumes only 0.6µA of typical turn-off current.
Its proprietary gate driver solution ensures clean switching transitions while preventing switch nodes from ringing to minimize high-frequency radiation noise. Spread spectrum (FSS) further helps to reduce silence performance by dispersing switching noise energy.
The AP63356Q operates continuously in PWM mode at a nominal 450kHz switching frequency for all loads. The AP63357Q converts to PFM mode at light loads, maintaining up to 86% efficiency at 5mA loads and consuming only 22µA of static current at no load.
Both devices have low voltage difference (LDO) operation, which allows the device to maintain its output voltage regulation when the input is reduced to a level close to the output voltage. Built-in protection features include output undervoltage protection (UVP), period-by-cycle peak current limitation, and thermal shut-off. These protection features, along with the input voltage surge tolerance of 40V (continuous 400ms), enable these devices to provide powerful automotive POL solutions.
