
Diodes introduces a new line of low-voltage potential converters for simple, autonomous bidirectional operation. The PI4GTL2002 is a 2-bit potential converter designed to convert a signal used to regulate a voltage potential to a signal with a higher or lower voltage, such as transmitting transceiver logic (GTL) or GTL+ to LVTTL/TTL. As the trend for leading processor manufacturers to include GTL+ interfaces in their products continues to rise, the demand for high-performance potential converters in product applications such as server/data center and networking is also increasing. The PI4GTL2002 not only meets this requirement, but also has the advantage of not needing to control the direction.
The PI4GTL2002 uses an open-drain design, which means that the device can convert the voltage potential from any direction without increasing the design complexity of the dedicated directional control signal, nor sacrificing its performance. The device is direction-free in operation, can be converted between 0.8V and 5V (CMOS), and the transmission delay between input and output does not exceed 1.5ns. As a result, the PI4GTL2002 supports a variety of use cases, including standard mode and fast mode I2C interfaces.
The PI4GTL2002UEX is packaged in U-QFN, while the PI4GTL2002 is available in W-QFN (PI4GTL2002WEX) and XT-QFN (PI4GTL2002XTEX). In the design of the product, the NMOs-based transmission transistor operates bidirectionally through a common gate, providing a reference voltage for each signal at the same time. This allows the design team to apply different voltages to both sides of the device, allowing the device to switch between signals with voltages ranging from 0.8V to 5V.
The PI4GTL2002 adopts a pass-through design for easy layout, which can effectively simplify PCB configuration. The device's low input and output capacitors keep transmission delays in a very low range, and the on-resistance of only 3.5Ω minimizes signal distortion.
