Diodes offers a wide range of synchronous step-down converters, including the AP65450, AP65452 and AP65552, for low output voltage power regulation in digital TVS, displays and other rapidly changing high-density point-of-load system architectures. The new device uses adaptive constant on-time control to ensure high precision DC output, high efficiency and fast transient response.
The AP65450 is rated 4A and its adaptive constant on-time control smoothly transitions from continuous on-mode under heavy loads to intermittent on-mode under light loads. The 4A rated AP65452 and 5A rated AP65552 variable devices operate in continuous on-mode, helping to reduce system noise and improve filtering.
The efficiency of the new converter is up to 92%, and the addition of automatic light-load options to significantly improve performance makes it easier for designers to comply with various regional low-power mode regulations. In addition, they have a wide operating voltage range from 4.5V to 18V, suitable for 5V, 9V and 12V bus systems.
The fixed switching frequency of the AP65452 and AP65552, as well as the variable switching frequency of the AP65450 at low load, are up to 650kHz. This, combined with adaptive constant-on-time control, allows designers to achieve good output stability by using fewer, smaller external inductor and capacitor components, as well as reduced printed circuit board size. All three products come in a compact SO-8EP package to save even more space.
