Diodes supply piezoelectric sound drivers

Diode PAM8906 Piezoelectric Sound Driver offers a built-in boost converter capable of driving piezoelectric sound with up to 36VPP output. The PAM8906 offers an integrated boost converter for an optimized solution with higher sound output (SPL) for greater sound output and lower static current, as well as an automatic on/off function for extended battery run time.

The device is ideal for battery powered piezoelectric sound or alarm related applications. The PAM8906 uses unique piezoelectric acoustic driver technology, combined with an integrated boost converter, to deliver low inrush current and low EMI while providing high system efficiency. The integrated boost converter switches at a fixed frequency of 1.8MHz, so it can work with a small inductor of 0.47µH.

The PAM8906 is available with 10V, 12V, and 18V output voltage (VOUT) options. Diode Company PAM8906 drives with external PWM input or in self-excited mode (only 10V and 12V are supported in this mode) for a variety of piezoelectric acoustic applications. The device also features thermal shutdown, overcurrent, overvoltage and undervoltage locking protection to ensure safe system operation. PAM8906 is packaged in an MSOP-10 package with a smaller PCB footprint and higher SMT yield.
