Drive Technology Holland introduces gearless drive systems to improve machine efficiency and performance

Dutch company Drive Technology Holland has developed a globally patented gearless drive system that can help significantly improve the efficiency and performance of (electric) cars, vehicles, boats, wind turbines, bicycles and machines.

     Dutch company Drive Technology Holland has developed a globally patented gearless drive system that can help significantly improve the efficiency and performance of (electric) cars, vehicles, boats, wind turbines, bicycles and machines.

 

     Drive Technology Holland is headquartered in the Eindhoven region. For more than a decade, the technology company has been continuously developing innovative technologies. The new drive system has now been developed into a prototype. The most important part of the System is the Controlled Rotation System (CRS), which allows stepless changes without the use of gears, chains or oils.

 

     The new system is driven by a toothed belt. This can be done with a regular tooth belt or with a tooth belt developed by Drive Technology Holland (adaptive drive belt, using a newly developed sliding element). This enables the new system to be a more compact, lighter, cheaper, easier to maintain and more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional gearboxes.

 

     The new drive system has many advantages and applications. The system ensures that all machines and vehicles that can be applied to it do not require the use of gears and oils. As a result, resistance is reduced, efficiency can be improved, and fewer parts and raw materials are required. It is now possible to drive a car according to its individual wheels. Wind turbines, for example, no longer require gearboxes, which reduces drag and improves efficiency. Applying this system to bicycles can make cycling easier. "With this system, you're riding a normal bike, but it feels like you're riding an electric bike," says Harrie Essens, research and development director at Drive Technology Holland.

 

     The new drive system has a single shaft, contains two adjustable self-centering conical roulette wheels, and is able to utilize sliding elements. The two cone-shaped discs are hydraulically driven and move against each other, using sliding technology to move the sliding element up and down. This creates a larger/smaller toothed belt drive cycle for acceleration/deceleration.

 

     Jan de Wijs, Director of Design engineering at Drive Technology Holland, said: "Our system ultimately enables the creation of a stepless gear system driven by a toothed belt. This seems technically impossible, but we have shown that this is not the case. That makes our new system very special."

 

     After the debut of the new drive system, the invention was wrongly compared to the traditional drive system, which is still in use in the automotive industry fifty years after its invention. But the two systems are very different. Harry Essens, Director of Research and Development at Drive Technology Holland, said: "While traditional drive systems use two axles, our CRS system uses one axles. In addition, our system does not drive gears, but is driven by the tooth belt and does not require the use of oil, which is very different from traditional drive systems. In fact, we have invented a completely new continuously variable drive system, but it is an improved version driven by the tooth shape."
