EPC announces the launch of 450 V enhanced gallium nitride power transistors for high frequency applications

     EPC announced the introduction of the 450 V and normally disconnected enhanced power transistor (EPC2027), which can be used in applications requiring high frequency switching to achieve higher efficiency and power density. Applications that benefit from devices with high voltage and faster switching characteristics include UHF DC-DC converters, medical diagnostic instruments, solar power inverters and LED lighting.

     The EPC2027 device has A 450 V rated voltage, 400 mΩ maximum on-resistance (RDS(on)), and 4 A output current. The device uses a passivated chip containing a electrode, which allows for efficient heat dissipation and easy assembly. The EPC2027 device is 1.95 mm x 1.95 mm in size for increased power density.

     "As off-line adapters and inverters increasingly require smaller, lighter designs with higher power density, there is a growing demand for devices with higher voltage and faster switching characteristics. Power design engineers using 450 V EPC2027 transistors can increase the switching frequency of their offline power conversion systems, resulting in more efficient and smaller systems."
