EPC introduces 300W, bi-directional, 1/16 brick DC/DC buck converter module

EPC announced the introduction of the EPC9151, a 300 W, bi-directional, ultra-small 1/16 brick DC/DC buck converter module that measures just 33 mm x 22.9 mm (1.3 "x 0.9"). The EPC9151 uses Microchip's digital Signal controller (dsPIC33CK) and EPC's ePower™ power level integrated circuit (EPC2152) to achieve over 95% efficiency in 300 W, 48 V/12 V converters. And the number of phases can be increased in this scalable two-phase design, so that the power can be higher.

     Brick DC/DC converters are widely used in data center, telecommunications and automotive applications and can convert a nominal 48 V bus to a nominal 12 V distribution bus (or from a nominal 12 V bus). The rapid development of gallium nitride integrated circuit technology has promoted the integration of half-bridge devices and gate drivers, and the EPC9151 module is a single-chip solution (EPC2152) to simplify layout, reduce area and reduce cost for a variety of target applications.

 

     Alex Lidow, CEO of EPC, said: "Gallium nitride field-effect transistors (eGaN FETs) and integrated circuits have the advantages of fast switching, small size and low cost to meet the stringent power density requirements of leading-edge computing applications. The EPC9151 is a good example of how the integrated power stage EPC2152 can be utilized to meet the increased power density and reduced system costs required for 48-V conversion in computing applications."
