EPC's eGaN FETs and ICs enable multi-mode capabilities in a single amplifier, resulting in an efficient wireless power system

     EPC's EPC9121 is an efficient power demonstration system capable of running to multiple wireless power standards. It is compatible with the Qi standard of the Wireless Power Alliance (WPC), the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) standard (now merged with the AirFuel Alliance), and the AirFuel(formerly A4WP) wireless power standard. In fuel resonance mode, therefore called fuel mode, the EPC9121 system operates at 6.78 MHz with an amplifier circuit configured for zero voltage operation. In this mode, the system can deliver up to 10 watts of power to the source coil.

     In Qi/PMA inductive mode, the system operates at 165 kHz and the amplifier circuit is configured for hard switching operation, which can provide up to 5 W of load power to the device. The EPC9121 is designed to simplify the evaluation process for resonant and inductive wireless power technologies using eGaN FETs and eGaN ic.

     The amplifier is configured for single-ended operation and includes a gate driver (s), oscillator, and feedback controller for a pre-regulator, which ensures operation of wireless power control based on aviation fuel standards. This configuration allows testing to meet aviation fuel Level 2 standards at load ranges up to ±35j ohm. The preregulator features the 100 V rated 65 mm EPC2036 as the primary switching device for the SEPIC converter.

     The EPC9121 comes with two receiving equipment units: the first is tuned to and compatible with aviation Fuel Class 3 specifications, and the second is an inductive mode unit compatible with the 5 W Qi receiver standard. Each device unit includes a high-frequency Schottky diode based on a full-bridge rectifier and an output filter to provide filtering for unregulated DC voltage. The device board is equipped with two leds, a green one indicating that a power supply with an output voltage of 4v or greater is being received, and a red one indicating an overvoltage condition with an output voltage of more than 36 V.
