Emergency vehicle detection technology that imparts hearing to cars

     In order to improve road safety, many countries are introducing relevant laws and regulations, requiring drivers to voluntarily give way to emergency vehicles. As the number of autonomous vehicles increases, these regulations are likely to extend to autonomous vehicles that can recognize and respond to emergency vehicles and meet safety requirements. In most cases, this requires the use of both audible and visual warning signals.

     To that end, Infineon Technologies announced a partnership with Cyrene to build a solution based on Infineon's car-scale XENSIV™ MEMS microphone (IM67D130A) and Cylon's Emergency Vehicle Detection (EVD) software. This will enable the car to proactively detect approaching emergency vehicles, even when they are in a blind spot.
