Flex Power Module introduces 500W 1/4 brick DC-DC converter for RFPA telecom applications

     Flex Power Modules announced the release of PKM4516ADPIHS. It is the latest model in the company's DC-DC converter family and is designed for radio frequency power amplifier (RFPA) applications in the telecommunications market. The PKM4516ADPIHS is a high-density converter in industry standard 1/4 brick form, saving valuable board space. It has an output of 28V/18A, an output power of up to 504W, and an input voltage range of 36V to 75V. As a result, it is ideal for 28V transverse diffusion MOSFET (LDMOS) or gallium nitride (GaN) RFPA applications.

     The new converter has a typical peak efficiency of 95.5% at 48Vin and half load. Its wide output voltage regulation range of 14V to 35V makes it easy to optimize the connected RF portion. It provides comprehensive protection against short circuits, overload, overheating, output overvoltage and input undervoltage. It can be started with a pre-biased load and has an isolation rating of 2250Vdc from primary to secondary. In addition, it also provides remote switch control, positive and negative logic optional.

     RFPA applications typically have sealed enclosures and no airflow. To be installed in such an environment, the device is equipped with a substrate for conduction cooling. Therefore, at substrate temperatures up to 85 ° C, it can still provide 18A/504W output, while at 100 ° C, its output will only be slightly derated to 17.8A/500W. The device operates over the entire temperature range from -40 ° C to +125 ° C and has excellent derating characteristics.

     The PKM4516ADPIHS half-bridge design uses the latest PWM controller technology and is highly integrated with a small number of components, thus saving Oems costs and ensuring excellent reliability. Synchronous rectification helps achieve cutting-edge efficiency performance, resulting in high power density and extremely high reliability, with an average time to failure (MTBF) of 7.9 million hours. The converter meets the safety requirements of IEC/EN/UL 62368-1.
